Amanda S. Kleinman, MD, is a well-regarded psychiatrist with a private practice – Amanda S. Kleinman MD Ltd – in Chicago, Illinois, located in the John Hancock building. Dr. Kleinman is board-certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). She graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a bachelor’s degree in art history. She received her medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and completed her internship and residency in psychiatry at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Kleinman is an effective teacher who was awarded the Resident Teacher of the Year twice while working as an assistant professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. During that time, Dr. Kleinman developed outpatient clinical training for medical students and residents and served as the director of Rush’s outpatient psychiatry clinic.
Dr. Kleinman has specialized training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP). Dr. Kleinman is a member of the International Society of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy TFP, and has trained with Frank Yeomans MD PhD, Jill Delaney LCSW, Kenneth Levy PhD, and Mark Petrini MD. Dr. Kleinman is currently in training for psychoanalytic psychotherapy under Adina Keesom PsyD with the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.
Dr. Kleinman approaches each patient with openness and warmth. She takes time to fully assess every patient’s individualized needs with a thorough, extended evaluation. Dr. Kleinman thoughtfully considers each patient’s difficulty, discusses their goals for treatment, and works with patients to set up the treatment in a way that maximizes its effectiveness. She helps patients embark on a meaningful journey towards deeper foundations of self-awareness and a more integrated sense of self.
